The children and the strike

After the general strike of March 29 in Spain, today it seems that things return to normal. But yesterday many schools, especially public, were affected by the strike, and we want to know what was the case of your children, that of the children and the strike.

In my oldest daughter's school they sent an informative note stating that the school would have the teachers who did not strike and in any case they would have the minimum mandatory services and the dining room would work normally.

But, Is the strike a children's thing? That is, our right as adults to work or not in the strike day is clear, but how does that affect them? Do we take them to school no matter what happens there and do what the elders do? Should we sympathize with the strike teachers so as not to saturate those left there?

Yesterday at school there were very few children. They saw each other in the street, with parents who did not work for the strike, others with their parents in their open shops, others with their relatives who have no employment, with grandparents ... A curious situation, and that will depend on each center and every family.

My daughter has gone to school, her teacher was there and in the classroom they have joined other children, although as I say there was little attendance. They have done work, relaxation, they have played, they have passed the list, they have sung… Come on, more or less as usual.

The truth is that we have been doubting whether to take her to school or not, because I didn't work every Thursday and I could keep the two kids without any problems, which would have been more comfortable.

But in the end we have chosen to take it, the strike is not for children, and incidentally explain the issue of the strike, that perhaps their teacher would not be, why some stores were closed, many workers stopped working because they disagree with what politicians decide ("and who are politicians?"), the issue of minimum services ...

Really I think children should know why strikes occur (explaining it to their level) and, above all, it should be explained that it is a right that must be respected both in one sense and the other. Hopefully we do not have to return to this issue, because that would mean that there are no reasons to repeat a strike, although I do not know whether to be so optimistic ...
