Wikiduca It is a revolutionary educational method that uses blended learning. It consists of the close fusion and the use of computer media with classroom learning, with spectacular results.
It is a project carried out by Valencian entrepreneurs. Is a educational game that teaches primary English vocabulary to kids. According to their creators, parents and teachers send them very positive comments about the educational values of the application and how fast and excited their children learn.
David Anthony, one of its creators, indicates that the objective is to complement school learning through effective vocabulary teaching. The results are an average of 44 words learned and 123 review exercises performed per game session. And also with a smile.
David explains that they are now finishing functions for schools. Among them include the following:
- Create teacher accounts so that they can create groups for each of their classes and assign different vocabulary to each group according to their level and school curriculum.
- Use different vocabulary lists depending on the textbook of each group to learn in parallel to the classes.
- Assign words as homework on a specific date so that the next day all children come with those words learned.
- Add new words and improve pronunciation.
- Manage in the teacher panel the students who have done their homework, their progress with the word list, the words that have given them problems, how many failures they have had and much more.
Wikiduca increases in difficulty for elementary courses. The goal is to teach, in order, the words children learn between first and sixth. For older children who already know the first words it is a good review of their vocabulary and they love getting points in the game so easily and quickly.
Wikiduca was born, David explains, because in their own classes, their children were unable to articulate their thoughts. They passed their exams because they learned the recipes to answer well but only became experts taking exams. As for the use of the language they were not able to communicate because they lacked the most basic blocks: use the words!
And, although grammar is essential in learning a language, Wikiduca fulfills a fundamental mission to reinforce vocabulary.
David is passionate as he explains that "when children begin to understand and be able to communicate, their world begins to open a little more: they begin to understand things that interest them, such as songs and videos, and suddenly English makes sense to them. It's part of his life. They like it. And there's no turning back. The seed of knowledge has germinated! "
Wikiduca's income model explains to David that it is freemium, that is, offering some premium aspects for those who want to pay them. Although most educational functions are free and available to everyone. The objective is that the payment functions are mostly playful.
