World Heart Day: take control of your children's cardiovascular health, and your own!

Cardiovascular diseases (include Heart Disease and stroke) can occur in people of any age, including children and women. They cause more than 17 million deaths a year, and a large number of serious diseases that affect adults occur during adolescence.

Spain belongs to the group of 194 countries that have committed to reduce the number of premature deaths due to CVD by 25% in 2025. However, the authorities cannot achieve this goal alone. Each person can take control over their cardiovascular and family health to live a better and longer life

Tomorrow is the World Heart Day, and we anticipate telling you what it takes to have a healthy heart:

According to the World Health Organization, between the ages of 5-17 years, at least 60 minutes of daily exercise should be practiced: moderate physical activity (fast walking, dancing, work at home or garden); or more energetic actions (athletics, cycling, swimming and other sports). The practice of more than 60 minutes of daily physical exercise can provide additional health benefits

Physical activity

Parents must offer opportunities for children to exerciseBecause practicing it on a regular basis is very important for health, it is not just about practicing a sport but about discovering those activities that everyone likes: dancing, walking in the mountains, playing outdoors. During adolescence, it will be friends who will provide opportunities for regular physical exercise, which can become a point of union.

The maximum time we spend watching television or playing video games must be two hours a day.

Healthy children will be healthy adults: almost two thirds of premature deaths, and one third of all diseases, are associated with ailments or behaviors that begin in youth (including smoking, and being overweight).

Heart-healthy diet

Meals are the special time to share with the family, and unhealthy foods during and outside of them will be avoided. Food should always be healthy, rich and attractive for the little ones, whether we eat them at home, or if they are taken to school or work. It should be remembered that the daily rations of vegetables we need are 2/3. And above all: it is imploring to avoid foods high in saturated fats, trans fats, salt and sugar.

Be very careful with processed foods because of their high salt content. And keep the tobacco out of your homes

You all know how to celebrate World Heart Day, especially by adopting a positive attitude aimed at overcome difficulties and improve our health.
