How and when to watch Star Wars with your children

No one can deny that Star wars It is one of the most famous film sagas and with more followers in the history of celluloid, few will be (any I know) that have not seen any chapter of the saga and characters like Yoda, R2-D2, 3CO-PO, Princess Leia or her hairy friend, are well known to each other confine. And surely if you are among one of his followers you will be looking forward to next December to see the last chapter of the saga that opens that month. What nerves!

But Star Wars is not just another saga, it is not a simple movie, but a whole universe to share, even for some, a religion and way of life. That is why you will surely be waiting for your children to be old enough to introduce them to that world of lasers swords, Jedis, spaceships and dark power, but, How and when to see Star Wars with your children.

Is there any recommended age?

Incredible as it may seem and despite the number of deaths that appear in the series, its rating is PG, for over 10 years with adult supervision. Come on, the adult is over, because any fan of the series will be more than willing to explain everything you need to your child.

Nor do I think that with less than 10 years the child understands the film, the strength, the dark side, the inner struggles, etc. I do not say that there is no child who will understand it and of course I am sure there are true Star Wars fans of less age, but I think they stay more with speed and struggles than with the background.

But not everything is lost for the little ones because there are other variants a bit more adapted than the movies. For example, we have those made by the LEGO factory, where the wizards of the blocks have marvelously adapted the Star Wars world to theirs, of course with a greater sense of humor, such as The Revenge of the Brick, a parody of episode III.

And for those who are a little older we have the animated series The Clone Wars

Both options can serve to initiate our children in the world of the Force.

So what to see first?

Well, it will depend on the age of our children. If they are already around 10 years old I would start with the original saga and in order of chapters. Like many others I think there is no color between the first films, chronologically speaking and the last three, but history is history and we must respect it.

If they are smaller then start with the animated series or video games, especially those of lego that are quite entertaining.

Where and how? Will we need any previous preparation?

Well, it is clear that except for Chapter VII that will be released in December, the rest will not be left other than to see them at home. We can prepare a small home theater session, as long as our children are prepared to endure an entire movie sitting on the couch.

Why not read the books before?

Yes, Star Wars also has its series of books that we can read before or after starting to watch the series in the cinema. Of course, the books are for children a little older.
