Tips for painting the baby's room

It is not a decision that we can take lightly unless we are willing to pick up brushes and rollers and get down to work or re-hire and pay a professional. It's fine that we consider how to paint the child's room, since we will probably live with that painting and decoration for many years.

What should we keep in mind when painting the children's room? What are the most recommended colors? Is there any kind of paint that is not recommended to use? We tell you everything and we also offer original ideas to paint the children's room.

Decide the color of the room

Choosing the color of the baby or child's room is not any decision. Choosing colors is choosing sensations, so weigh your choice well. We may like red or bright yellow (for our clothes, for the car ...) but those are not the most appropriate colors to decorate the walls of a children's room.

The colors are associated with a state of mind, they can convey feelings, there are cheerful colors, muted colors, neutral colors ... Pink and blue have long since ceased to be the most used colors to paint the walls of the baby's bedroom. Instead, they are usually pastel colors, white or beige and even gray, but there is a whole world of possibilities in this regard. How to decide the color of the child's room?

It will depend on several issues, namely: the brightness and size of the room. The smaller or less luminous the room, the lighter colors we will have to choose, since those light tones "extend" the space. "Cold" colors such as blue, purple or green have the effect of reducing space, compared to warm colors (orange, beige, yellow) that give a feeling of spaciousness.

The strong or dark colors of any shade (red, green, orange, blue ...) are recommended for spacious rooms that receive good natural light.

Another issue to consider is furniture. If we have already chosen the furniture of the room of the baby or child, it will depend on its color it will combine better with some tones in the walls or others. White or light-colored furniture is great for adding an extra touch of color to the walls, as they will stand out more when contrasting with the paint and with other accessories and decorative accessories.

On the contrary, if the furniture in the children's room is dark, it is advisable to opt for a soft and light paint for the walls, because otherwise the room would be very dark, subtracting light.

Remember that ceiling painting also has its importance. When it is painted a lighter shade than the walls, a lifting effect is created to extend the height of the room. On the contrary, if the ceiling is painted darker than the walls an approach effect is created, the space is "reduced".

Of course, your tastes or those of your son or daughter also influence, but do not worry because even when there is a disparity of opinions it is possible to achieve a beautiful room combining colors.

Paint the children's room combining colors

Another option is combine colors in the child's room, colors that are of the same range of tones or on the contrary look for contrasts. Pastel shades of beige or brown can combine well with pink, blue or green. Another more daring option is to combine the classic colors pink and blue with the gray color, which is very fashionable.

If bright colors predominate, it is advisable to combine walls in stronger tones with softer ones so that it is not a "strident" mixture.

If the room is quite spacious and we have enough space we can paint different areas using different colors: rest, play, study area ... For the study area, light colors that favor tranquility and concentration are recommended.

A light color does not mean boring

Neutral or pastel tones, beige and even total white do not have to be boring. Furniture or decoration, bedding, paintings ... can always give a touch of color, contrast. In addition, these tones are ideal for decorating with decorative vinyl stickers, the style that you like or like the child.

There are vinyl for the walls of all sizes, shapes and colors. From the most traditional with floral motifs or children's figures to those who represent a forest or move us to a castle or to outer space, abstract figures ... The vinyls have to be placed when the paint is well dried and have the advantage that they are easier (and cheap) to change that all the color of the walls. So, if the boy or girl changes tastes, or we get tired of those drawings, you can change the decoration of the room with new vinyl.

Another option for some piece of the walls of the children's room (or one of them entirely) is slate paint, which goes beyond black. There are slate paintings of many colors, we can cover a greater or lesser space, make shapes with it such as a clock, a mountain, a building ... Yes it is recommended not to put it very close to the bed so that the chalk does not leave remains in that place .

By last, the wallpaper and decorated with prints, striped ... is another option that can be placed on smooth walls (or on any of the walls).

Inadequate paints

It is no longer a matter of taste or sensation, but that there are certain paintings that we will avoid. Of course, buy them in establishments with permission and that are approved and see that they do not contain heavy metals. In this sense, there is the option of ecological, natural paints, ceramic paints ... with non-toxic raw materials and with very little smell.

Another recommendation is to paint the room when the baby or child is not at home and ensure good ventilation before you have to sleep in that room (in fact, if possible, better if you sleep elsewhere for a few days to avoid the strong smell of paint). In this way we prevent respiratory problems, allergies and even possible accidents.

Regarding accidents, remember to prevent children from accessing half-painted rooms and tell them about existing risks. Keep paints, solvents out of reach ... as serious poisoning could occur. We want to do a good job with the painting of the child's room and with a happy ending, without frights.

We hope that after our recommendations on how to paint the baby or child's room help you to take that step and become "decorators". It is best to provide a personal touch and that the combination of colors and the inclusion of varied figures or drawings stimulate the senses and imagination of the children.
