A father from Seville invents a water cap that warns in case of drowning and floats the child

If a few weeks ago we were surprised by the news of floating water invented by a Spanish engineer to prevent drowning in swimming pools, no less surprised we have been with that other invention, which could be of great help for families.

It's about a water cap that detects drowning and floats the child through an alarm system. Experts recommend thorough surveillance as the best measure to prevent water accidents, but there is no doubt that these types of inventions can be great allies.

Smart hat

Abraham Gallego is a Sevillian father of two girls who, aware of the tragedy that hundreds of families in our country live every summer because of drowning, decided invent a system that will help prevent them.

And that's how this smart hat was born that, for the moment, is only registered in the Patent and Trademark Office waiting for a company that is interested in the product and is responsible for manufacturing it.

The mechanism of the hat, made of latex or siliconeIt has four safety devices that seek to prevent drowning deaths thanks to its sensors and buoyancy system located on the chin.

This is how this peculiar bathing cap works:

  • The hat goes connected to a mobile application or bracelet that must be controlled by parents or adults in charge of the child. They are the ones who, according to their criteria and attending to the child's swimming level, will program the hat to be submerged in the water for a certain time.

  • If you exceed this dive time, the hat will send a warning to the wristband or to the mobile application and will emit an emergency sound while a LED light that is worn on the top is encience, so that the child can be located quickly and visually (very practical for crowded pools ).

  • But in addition to all this, the hat will activate a pump to inflate a tape placed on the chin that will help the child to rise to the surface and raise your face above the water to be able to breathe.

Figures that alert

WHO notes that drowning causes more than 150 deaths annually in Spain and 388,000 worldwide. They are the second cause of accidental infant mortality in our country and the third worldwide. According to the National Statistics Institute, drowning means 13% of the main causes of infant mortality for injuries in children between 0 and 14 years old.

According to the 2017 National Drowning Report published by the Royal Spanish Salvation and Relief Federation, the people killed in our country from January 1, 2017 to August 31 have been 357 of which 28 were minors.

Unfortunately, the figures are repeated year after year and the trend is no longer exclusively seasonal. Swimming pools, bathtubs, rivers, sea ... any aquatic surface can be a potential danger for children.

Although experts insist on surveillance as a way to prevent water accidents, there are also other types of measures that parents can take to try to avoid them, such as teaching our children to swim as soon as possible.

And if in addition to all this we find inventions that can complement all these precautions, welcome!
