Mothers of the World II

This is the second delivery from Mothers of the World, a follow-up carried out by the World Health Organization to six women living in different parts of the world who told about their experience as mothers, from pregnancy to the first weeks of their babies.

Babies have already turned six months old and the mothers report on the progress of their children, how are their lives with the little ones and the different daily circumstances that cross from their place of the planet.

Damiana Mamiani from Bolivia Alberto is still breastfeeding, who is starting to eat purees and has received all vaccinations. WHO recommends breast milk up to two years, supplemented with other foods. In Bolivia, 6% of children between 6 and 11 months are malnourished.

Bounlid of Laos He breastfeeds Lang whenever she asks. Her four brothers take care of her when her mother goes to the jungle to cut bamboo rods to make baskets. They wait for doctors who approach the village twice a year to immunize the girl, who has not yet received medical checks. In Laos, 40% of children under five are underweight. Samah Mohamed of Egypt says that Basant is a very quick girl, weighing 7 kg, and that the first teeth are coming out. The little girl has been vaccinated, has regular medical checks and receives affection from her family. 11% of Egyptian babies are underweight during the second half of life.

Hiwot Abraham of Ethiopia 17 years old she planned to give her daughter to the father's family, but finally Elizabeth has stayed with her. Although they live in precarious conditions, the girl is in very good health, receives medical attention and has been vaccinated. In 37% of Ethiopian babies between 6 and 11 months are not well fed.
