Girl released from a gene that causes mental retardation

It has been achieved that a girl can be born freed from a gene that causes mental retardation, it is a genetic alteration called the fragile X syndrome, causing various malformations and morphological alterations in addition to mental retardation.

These successful results have been given for the first time in Catalonia and have been achieved thanks to the Valencian Institute of Infertility.

During the third day of the evolution of the six or eight cells. Next, a biopsy was performed to identify the disease-free embryos. This disease was imprinted in the genes of the mother who had received it through genetic inheritance. Thanks to the fact that such transmission was recorded, fertilization could be carried out free of the gene that caused it, releasing the aforementioned cells from the rest of the cells carefully so as not to damage them.

After this process, an exponential copy of part of the genetic code of each cell was copied, then the healthy embryo was transferred to the future mother, who began her pregnancy under extreme controls. The result was a completely healthy girl and free from the dreaded disease. Now he is six months old and his path through life can be done with perfect normality, a source of joy for the mother and for the doctors who performed the task of ridding her of the gene.
