With some mental problems it is very difficult to quit smoking during pregnancy

Various psychiatric disorders or a depression are reason enough for a future mother not to quit smoking or failing that it is a titanic feat to achieve it.

A team of researchers from the Edwardsville University of Illinois (United States) has developed a study showing that women who have mental problems are more prone to the vile vice of smoking and that this behavior is due to a form of self-medication.

The relationship between the non-abandonment of smoking and the propensity to suffer from various psychic disorders was also studied, for which 744 pregnant women were studied. The study revealed that future mothers who were told that they were pregnant and that despite knowing they continued smoking, were up to 2.5 times more likely to have some type of psychiatric disorder unlike pregnant women who had never smoked. Future moms who quit smoking at the time they were given the happy news were up to twice as likely to suffer from some kind of mental problem. On the other hand, 25% of pregnant women who continued smoking had some mental disorder such as anxiety, attention deficit, etc.

Tobacco seriously damages health, it is not necessary to be pregnant to quit smoking, the ideal is to start the tobacco ban as soon as possible. If you want more details of the study, you can see its publication in the American Journal of Public Healt
