Control gestational diabetes to prevent obesity in children

There is a relationship between diabetes suffered during pregnancy, called gestational diabetes and the chances of the baby suffering from obesity in the future.

The only way to avoid this risk is that diabetes is treated properly during pregnancy to break the genetic link that produces this relationship. If it is not treated, the risk of the child suffering from childhood obesity is doubled.

A study by researchers from the Kaiser center in Portland and Hawaii who have crossed the information of more than nine thousand medical records of mothers and children, have managed to demonstrate that as blood sugar levels increase in women during pregnancy the chances of the child being obese between 5 and 7 years are also increased.

Gestational diabetes occurs when the woman's body is unable to produce the insulin necessary to control high blood glucose levels, and as the name implies, it is transient. Other reasons that also predispose to suffer from it are the mother's advanced age, family history of diabetes and overweight, among others.

It disappears after childbirth, but it is necessary to do everything within the reach of the mother to keep it at bay, eating a balanced diet and strictly following medical advice, because if it is not treated correctly it can lead to serious diseases in the baby.
