"Being a father is the most important thing in life": the brilliant response of a basketball coach about the paternity leave of a player

No semifinals, no titles, nothing. When a child is born there is nothing more important for the father than to witness that moment, even if he is a professional basketball player. The world of sport, which is given an excessive relevance, should not be the exception to a right that all parents should have, both in this and in any other job.

That's why it's applauded the response of Sarunas Jasikevicius, coach of Zalgiris Kaunas, a Lithuanian basketball team, who when asked by a journalist about the absence of the Brazilian center Augusto Lima for the birth of his son, he replied brilliantly saying that "being a father is the most important thing in life".

The Brazilian player did not play the semifinal for the elimination of his team because he traveled to witness the birth of his first daughter, born two days before.

When the journalist asked Jasikevicius if it seemed normal for a player to leave the team during the semifinals, the coach responded masterfully:

"Do you have children?" Asked Saras to the journalist. "When you have them, you will understand. It is the best experience of the human being. Do you think that basketball is the most important thing?"

"When you are a father you will understand what is most important in life"Jasikevicius continued." You come and talk to me. Because it is the best in the world. Believe me, neither titles nor anything else. Augusto Lima is now in heaven emotionally and I am happy for him. "

The father also matters

It is not the man who gives birth, but his role in the birth of a son is as relevant as that of the mother. It is an unrepeatable and very special moment in life that no one should miss, besides being a much needed emotional support for mother and baby.

Without a doubt, the coach's has been a great lesson for the world of sport and for all those who believe that there may be something more important than the birth of a child. I wish everyone would see family reconciliation this way.
