Water births in Galician public hospitals

Good news wakes us up this morning regarding the election in childbirth, although for the moment it will only be in Galicia. The Ministry of Health and Galician Health Service will allow Women who wish to have a natural water birth.

This measure will be effective this year, for which it is estimated that before the end there will be four public health hospitals (one in each province) that offer the possibility of giving birth in the water.

To do this, they will enable the bathing areas so that the development of the birth is totally safe for mother and child, placing them near the operating rooms in case any complications arise. The Vires da Xunqueira hospitals in Cee (A Coruña) and O Salnés in Pontevedra, have already adapted their facilities, have an area with bathtubs in the delivery rooms, so that its operation will be immediate, surely we will soon read a story in which a mother Galician tells us that she has given birth in the water without needing to go to a private maternity.

Another novelty that will satisfy many families is that women who choose this way of giving birth may be accompanied by as many people as they choose and there is space.

Until now, this procedure could only be requested in some private clinics with a cost of between 900 and 1,200 euros.

If you want to know a little better how a childbirth develops in the water, we recommend you read the information offered by Dolores in the post Delivery in the water.

We hope that communities will add to this satisfactory news.
