Breast milk and baby intelligence, new data

Some time ago I talked about the different versions that exist around breastfeeding and its effect on the intelligence of the baby.

Specifically, I tried to elucidate through the data of some research on the subject if a baby who is breastfed is smarter than one who is not.

It has been shown that breast milk stimulates brain development, although there is no conclusive evidence to show that the IQ increases, however, in my opinion, being intelligent goes beyond a coefficient.

However, a new study conducted in the United States by scientists at Yale University indicates that intelligence does improve but only that of certain children, those who have a genetic variant called FADS2, a gene responsible for controlling fatty acids that causes The baby can make better use of breast milk and promote brain development linked to a higher IQ.

That is, children who do not have this genetic variation even if they are breastfed do not have an intellectual advantage over others.

The key is in unsaturated fatty acids that are present in human milk, but not in cow's milk or in infant formulas, and that although they want to be imitated they are not the same.

These types of fatty acids have an enzyme that helps improve neurotransmission and neuronal development increases intellectual development.

Question, smarter with breast milk or not? Although there are studies that constantly refute the previous one, as I told you then, I do not believe that any mother breastfeeding her child thinking only of increasing her IQ, and if so, does not understand anything about breastfeeding.

If we do it, it is to give the baby the enormous and innumerable emotional, nutritional and immunization benefits that it brings, and if it also turns out that our son is a carrier of that gene and improves his brain development, even better.
