Most children under 3 years of age wake up one or more times during the night

Half of children under three years of age wake up at night once or twice, 30% wake up up to 3 or 4 times, while 20% fall asleep. Most sleep between 8 and 12 hours, the little ones sleep in their arms, but it is also common for babies under one year to sleep alone in their cribs.

These are some of the conclusions of the survey we launched last week to learn firsthand 'How does your baby sleep?'.

Following the more than five hundred answers that we have received from parents of children from between 0 months to 3 years We have been able to draw interesting conclusions about children's sleep.

Night awakenings according to ages

Those who wake up most times at night are babies less than 1 year old. 53% of children between 0 and 12 months wake up once or twice at night, 20% wake up 3 times, while 13% wake up 4 or more times. On the other hand, there are also children under one year sleep from the pull, they are 15%.

From the first year, night awakenings decrease. Most two-year-olds also wake up once or twice, 14% do so 3 times but no longer wake up more than 3 times. While the percentage of children sleeping from the pull increases to 26%.

At three years, although it is still normal for them to continue waking up once or twice, (44% still does), none wake up three or more times and the percentage of children who sleep from the pull doubles.

How many hours do babies sleep

Among the youngest, less than 6 months, the number of hours they sleep is more distributed. There are more who sleep shorter stretches.

Those who sleep longer (26%) do so for 8 to 10 hours, almost the same percentage (25%) sleep for 6 to 8 hours, followed by those who sleep for 10 to 12 hours (21%), those who sleep for 4 to 6 hours (17%), those who sleep less than 4 hours (6%) and finally, those who sleep more than 12 hours (4%), which there are also.

After the first six months sleep hours increase. Most babies between 6 and 12 months sleep for 8 to 10 hours, while during the first year, most sleep between 10 and 12 hours. After two years, no one sleeps less than 6 hours.

Children sleeping from the pull

A curiosity regarding the age of children who sleep from the pull is that we have found that 34% are children between 1 and 2 years, but do not necessarily sleep more as they get older, since 28% of babies who sleep without waking up once are less than 6 months old, followed by 17% of babies between 6 and 12 months.

Sleep pull and feed

Many times the introduction of complementary feeding is related to better sleep in children. Based on the results of the survey, 55% of children who sleep from the pull have already started complementary feeding, 30% are breastfeeding and only 14% are breastfeeding.

How babies fall asleep

There are different habits that parents put into practice at bedtime.

28% of children under three years of age fall asleepOf all of them, the majority are babies under 12 months of age. A year still 22% of children fall asleep in their arms, while after two years, almost none sleep in this way.

They are followed by children who sleep alone in their crib or bed (26%) and curiously they are not the oldest. As I said at the beginning of the post, after the arms, lying them alone in their crib is the most common way of sleeping children under one year.

20% of children prefer to fall asleep in the parents' bed, while a similar percentage (18%) fall asleep in their cribs or beds but with the presence of one of the parents.

9% of respondents have talked about other ways to sleep the baby, such as lying in their cart, on the sofa or in the parents' bed and then passing them to their crib or bed.

Where babies sleep

The majority (42%) of children under three years of age sleep in the parents' roomIt is followed by the number of children sleeping in another room (31%) and finally, those sleeping in the parents' bed (28%).

Among children under one year of age, the number of babies sleeping in the same room as the parents (51%) increases, while there are also more children sleeping with them in the same bed (26%) compared to those They sleep in another room (23%).

After the first year, the number of children sleeping in the same room of the parents decreases and the number of children who go to sleep alone in another room rises. But nevertheless, does not decrease the amount of children who collect. 30% of children between 1 and 3 years sleep in their parents' bed.

Bedtime Routines

Like the place chosen to fall asleep, each family has its own routines at bedtime. Some do not follow any in particular, however the majority (53%) choose the bathroom as a way to prepare the baby before sleep.

The little ones like a bath first and then that mom or dads sing a lullaby, while after two years they opt for a bath and a story.

We hope that the survey conclusions They are interesting to know better how babies sleep and of course, we take the opportunity to greatly appreciate your participation, since without your answers this would not be possible.
