"How the Grinch stole Christmas!": Reviewing the true meaning of Christmas

Less and less for Christmas day, a very special date (at least for me). It is when the child inside me is more present than ever, invading me the typical spirit of these dates, and enjoying Christmas trees or the lights that decorate the streets.

Yesterday I placed the Christmas tree with my family and, as it has been a tradition for some time, we rescued to read together one of my favorite children's stories for Christmas: "How the Grinch stole Christmas!", since it tells us about the true meaning of Christmas.

Perhaps you know what book I am talking about, at least of hearing; However, for those who do not know it, today I will talk a little about it, since it seems to me an ideal book to share with our children during these dates and although the version translated from English to Spanish steals part of its original charm and magic, no It is no longer a very beautiful story that hooks young and old.

"How the Grinch stole Christmas!" ("How the Grinch stole Christmas") is written by Dr. Seuss, a pseudonym of Dr. Theodor Seuss Geisel. The characteristic of the works of this author is that they are written in rhyming verses and illustrated by himself.

As I said before, the verses and rhythm used by Dr. Seuss are appreciable in the original language, although the latest translations try to preserve the style of the original verse.

The story that Dr. Seuss tells us in his children's story is not very complicated: the Grinch is a being of a green hair, with a heart "two sizes smaller" and quite chattering, since Christmas parties irritate him (in especially those organized by its neighboring town: VillaQuién).

The Grinch lives on top of a very high mountain with his only friend: his dog Max. Because of the envy he feels towards the Who and his happiness, the Grinch decides to steal their Christmas, and for this he takes all his gifts.

With this simple argument, Dr. Seuss gives us a very important message to convey to our children: Christmas is much more than gifts. Personally I think this is something very important because it seems that for some time the true spirit of Christmas has been lost.

And how could it be otherwise, due to the tremendous success of the story, several adaptations were made: a television series, a movie (starring Jim Carrey) and even a musical.

Finally, I cannot miss the opportunity to recommend other children's stories by Dr. Seuss, such as "Green eggs with ham", "One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish", "The Scribble Cat" or "Horton listens to Who ", these last two also adapted to the big screen.

Currently, not all of Dr. Seuss's works are translated into Spanish (due to the great difficulty of his rhymes and writing style). However, those that are have been thanks to Yanitzia Canetti, who has translated some of his books.

Anyway, I insist that whenever you can, you have the opportunity to carry out the original reading of the works of Dr. Seuss, since in addition to enjoying the charm and original magic, it is a beautiful and enjoyable way to introduce Our little ones in the language.

Why do I like Dr. Seuss's works so much? I find them very interesting, not only because of their didactic and fun content that children like so much, but because it makes our imagination surface while addressing issues as important as caring for the environment or, as is the case with "How the Grinch stole Christmas!". , the marketing of Christmas.
