Saturated fats make semen quality worse

It is not a novelty that food influences fertility, both in women and men. Specifically related to fat consumption, a recent study states that saturated fats make semen quality worse, while foods rich in omega 3, improve it.

On the other hand, antioxidants are considered essential for the good quality of semen, being molecules mainly present in fruits and vegetables capable of retarding and preventing the oxidation of other molecules.

Therefore, if you are thinking of looking for a baby, the diet of the future dad must be taken into account, since according to the study conducted with 99 men and published in Human Reproduction Men with diets that are richer in saturated fat have a lower amount and concentration of sperm.

The total sperm quantity is defined as the number of sperm in the ejaculation, while its concentration is the number per unit volume. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of sperm in an ejaculation should be at least 39 million, while the concentration of sperm should be at least 15 million per milliliter.

Based on this measure, the researchers found that men who consumed more saturated fat had 43 percent less sperm than men who consumed less and a concentration of 38 percent lower.

Those who drank more omega-3 fats, mainly present in fish, had a slight increase in sperm of almost two percent compared to those who consumed less.

Although the sample taken for the study is not too significant and more research is needed on the subject, it is logical to think that a healthy diet will favor the production and quality of sperm, which are reproductive cells.
