Breast-shaped cookies for World Breastfeeding Week 2012

One more year the World Breastfeeding Week 2012 (although it is celebrated in Spain in October) I wanted to give a sweet detail to this initiative, whose mission is to spread the benefits of breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world.

It is not necessary to name the benefits of breastfeeding, or why it is advisable to breastfeed until two years or more, or simply what it means to breastfeed in a pun, that is already said. Or simply because we like to breastfeed, like Myriam Moya in his wonderful blog In Lowercase.

Honestly, I'm tired of seeing newborn cookies with baby bottle shapes, whenever someone makes baby cookies, a bottle must appear. And why not boobs? Isn't breastfeeding what WHO or UNICEF recommends to children? Cookies decorated for babies should always carry some chest-shaped cookies representing breastfeeding Yes or no?.

I have prepared the cookies with the typical butter cookie recipe but you can make them with your favorite recipe, this is simple to do with children and have a fun time with them, children who have been breastfed and especially those who still have their chest, they will love to prepare them and especially eat them , although never as much as his mother's, that does not match even the best candy in the world.

I have prepared 3 different designs, a natural one (inspired by the design of Motherly Love), as cookies came into the world, such as breastfeeding, without bras, without necklaces, without shirts ... as is, some breasts with their dark nipples (I would have liked to have a little darker, then I will tell you how you can do it so that you are more brown); another slightly more fun design, with the nipples in the form of stars; and the last one with bras, because I liked how they looked and because I give a touch of color to my cookies.

And now we go with the recipe for butter biscuits shaped like breasts

Ingredients

(for about 30 cookies)
  • 185 g of butter at room temperature
  • 1 cup (220 g) of extra-fine sugar (luster sugar or icing sugar)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract (or the seeds of 2 vanilla pods)
  • 375 g (2 1/2 cups) flour
  • 1 egg

To decorate the cookies

  • Fondant colors (you can buy it online here)
  • Edible decorative elements (stars, pearls, balls, colored sugar)

Prepare cookies with children

  1. Preheat the oven at 200 ° C.
  2. We mix the butter with sugar until there is a whitish mixture (if you have a mixer, you can use it, but, with your hands, the children will love it)
  3. We add the egg and vanilla extract and we continue mixing.
  4. We sift the flour and add it to the butter mixture until it is well incorporated (little by little, to tablespoons).
  5. We make a ball with the dough, we put it in a plastic bag and put it in the fridge for 30 minutes
  6. The we stretch with the help of a roller on a floured surface (we can do it in 3 phases of 3 balls to make it easier).
  7. The thickness should be about 5-6 mm.
  8. We cut the cookies with a heart-shaped cutter (inverted will be shaped like breasts). To do the nipples you take a couple of balls of the dough and hook them in the round part of the heart.
  9. We put the cookies on a oven plate with a base of vegetal paper and we bake them at 200ºC for approximately 7-8 minutes (if you put the part of the nipples oriented towards the heat zone of the oven, they will be darker than me). Don't let them roast you, the taste changes a lot! They will be ready when the edges begin to have a more golden color.
  10. To decorate them with the colored fondant, here I leave a tutorial to decorate cookies with fondant, to make the shapes of bras I have cut the fondant with the heart cutter on both sides
