How to make the iPad (almost) indestructible in the hands of a child

Only three years ago the first iPad was presented and since then its success has been growing and growing to the point that last Christmas the iPad was the electronic element preferred by children.

You buy it to see your series, to play a casual game, to read the mail, the news and browse a bit and when you have it at home you realize that end up being kidnapped by your children, before the dread and cold sweat that runs through your knowing spine that they are capable of destroying it just by looking at it.

After seeing how the first iPad we had ended all the corners deformed by the falls (still with a case) and with the screen more scratched than the skin of a zebra a few weeks ago, after getting an iPad 2, I said no, that this time it would transform it into a (almost) indestructible contraption and then I will explain how.

A shock and fall proof case, Speck's iGuy

We have already told you about her in Babies and more. Speck's iGuy case and I assure you it is wonderful. It is made with EVA rubber and the iPad is very attached inside, with its several holes to be able to turn on, off, increase and decrease the volume and charge it. It is compatible with all iPad models and makes it totally resistant to falls. Since I put it on it has already fallen and is in perfect condition (moreover, if they fall on your foot, it hurts less).

The only drawback is that to catch it upright it is a bit strange, with a thin side and the other very outgoing. However, as what matters is that you live as long as possible and that the day you want you can remove the case to realize that it remains as new you get used to it fast.

A quality screen saver

Having the entire protected structure, the most touching element, the screen, is exposed. I don't know how they do it, I don't know if it's because of the falls or because they have diamond nails, but Children are able to scratch the screen quite easily. To avoid this, I bought a screen protector of those that must be removed by removing the bubbles afterwards and although it is true that the screen was safe and in perfect condition, the protector was scratched right away and in the end it was like having an iPad full of scratches, being A bit annoying to behold.

Searching, searching, I gave the Moshi iVisor XT, a screen protector different from the usual ones, which even include the included frame (there is in black and white). The only thing you have to worry about is to make the frame fit with that of the iPad and paste it. Easy, very easy, and with the advantage that no bubbles are produced.

The only "but" is that when the screen is turned off, and when you are seeing something dark and backlit the protector makes a little "water" with the colors of the rainbow. It is normal, according to the manufacturer, but according to what moments and according to the eye of each (there are more sensitive or susceptible people) it can bother. To me on the iPad it doesn't bother me, but I put one on the iPhone 4 and, perhaps because of the size of the screen, perhaps because there is a small jump between the screen and the phone frame, it is more obvious and annoying.

It's not cheap, but ...

I bought both in Amazon and the sum of the two articles was about € 55. Ok, it's not cheap, but you get a much safer iPad and you know that tomorrow, when they are able to use it without risk of falls, you remove the case, remove the protector and it remains as new. The first one I had, the one that seemed to have been crushed by a steamroller, I sold it second-hand and they gave me four bitches. If I had done the same operation then surely I could have sold it for more (and the case would have served me equally for the current one).
