Rafa Pérez wrote a story for his daughter Alba called "On how Princess Alba defeated a dragon named Cancer." Alba was a very brave five-year-old girl who fought until the end against her illness, and her parents are two tenacious people who, despite the gap left by the girl last August, have continued to raise funds to help pediatric cancer research.
Many of you will know this story of overcoming, we will always remember Alba as a hero. When I was a few months old, he was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma (a very aggressive cancer that is uncommon in young children). We will never forget her, and we have to thank her parents for an exceptional gesture, since they continue to lead an association that has set out to continue fighting the dragon. They are not alone, thanks to their army that are the "alberos": thousands of people who collaborate and support through the web and social networks. This same week, the Generalitat de Catalunya announced the birth of a project consisting of research to find new treatments against Ewing's woodworm, thanks to an economic contribution from the Alba Pérez association.
The project will be developed by the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute. This is a disease that is positioned as the second most common bone cancer and affects children and young people; At present, if it is diagnosed in time and does not have metasasis, it can be cured in 80% of cases. However, between 25 and 30 percent of those affected are diagnosed when there is metastasis, and therefore the survival drops to 30%
Rafa Pérez's wish is that no child should pass what has happened to his daughter, I think it is an example of will beyond adversity, from which we can all learn. The association had already donated funds to the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, and all interested parties can collaborate by donating the amount they deem appropriate and can contribute, or sponsoring, with a monthly contribution of one euro. It is also possible to buy products such as alberas bracelets.
Somehow Alba is still among us, and encourages us to fight with her.
