On October 12, let the father be present at the scheduled C-sections

If Mireia told us the good news that the people of Malaga can give birth freely, there is also good news about childbirth in Madrid, because the hospital October 12 lets the father be present at the scheduled caesarean sections.

On January 20, a woman gave birth by caesarean section to Carmen, her second daughter weighing more than 4 kilos, under the watchful eye of her partner who was inside the delivery room next to the medical team that attended the delivery. Something that is possible a few months ago in cases of scheduled caesarean sections, a practice that is allowed progressively given the emotional benefits that the couple (or who the mother determines) is present in the operating room to support the mother and receive her son.

The Madrid center is a pioneer in this regard thanks to a plan of humanization of childbirth launched by the professionals of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neonatology and Anesthesiology, Delivery and Nursing.

For women who will give birth in the Madrid hospital it is certainly good news to know that, if circumstances permit, the father may be present at the caesarean section. It is an extremely important moment for all three and everyone deserves to live it fully, regardless of the birth.

With this measure, the Maternal and Child Center of October 12 demonstrates that the humanization of childbirth is taken seriously. Well, after the baby is born, it is the father himself who places it on the mother's chest so that the first skin-to-skin contact occurs and breastfeeding begins, delaying all routine examinations. Then the three are transferred to the Resuscitation Unit.

Of course, we applaud this initiative because we believe that the involvement of the father at birth is essential to favor the early bond between father-mother and son.
