The National Federation of Premature Associations is born in Spain

Currently in Spain, one in every 13 children is born before 37 weeks gestation, representing the cause of 75% of admissions of newborns in Spanish hospitals.

With the collaboration of the Spanish Society of Neonatology and the Spanish Association of Pediatrics The National Federation of Premature Associations is born, with the aim that premature children and their families can have the appropriate rights to prevent and resolve this problem and its consequences in an optimal way.

María Emilia, president of this Federation created by parents, was a premature baby and is also the mother of a premature baby who is now 18 years old.

The National Federation of Premature Associations in Spain will try to give visibility to prematurity and claim the rights of children and their families, because they require more efforts and resources due to the health problems that some suffer and learning difficulties.

In addition to developing a "resource map", one of its first objectives is to influence the complexity of a child's prematurity not only in terms of care and follow-up of their health but also because of the emotional need for accompaniment and advice they have families, especially vulnerable and sometimes forgotten in some hospital settings.

"The emotional education that parents receive has an impact on how to deal with the conflicts that arise, so we must offer them a friendly environment, with appropriate routines and parenting guidelines," says María Emilia.

For its part, the Spanish Association of Pediatrics is committed to the recognition of the specialties involved in prematurity and wants to draw the attention of the population on how much they affect the health of prematurity and the consequences that may arise from their birth early , beyond simply improving their survival.
