In September, the App Camp of the @ESA is held to develop applications that use satellite data

For a few years now industries are leaving to hack probably as a survival mechanism, to secure new businesses by creating new ecosystems and because they have no capacity to exploit and gain knowledge of many of their valuable assets. By the time the kids grow up this process will be very consolidated so it is convenient to prepare and anticipate this phenomenon that I think will not stop. Among the companies or organizations that are letting yourself be hacked is ESA, the European space agency, which from September 8 to 15, 2014 will receive 20 application developers at ESRIN, in Italy, for the third edition of the ESA App Camp.

Interested developers can now sign up for the opportunity to spend a week at ESA designing new applications to mobile devices based on data collected by Earth observation satellites. Participants will learn to use data from Earth observation satellites, especially from the European program for environmental monitoring, Copernicus.

This type of information opens up huge possibilities to create innovative applications in a wide variety of disciplines, such as farming, the services of emergency response, the environmental Protection or the Marine transport. ESA will facilitate access to satellite data, which participants can use to create functional prototypes of applications for iOS and Android operating systems. From the European Space Agency they explain that it is not necessary to have experience working with Earth observation data in order to participate.

Contestants can choose from several categories and enroll alone or in teams of up to four people. The selection process will be based on the work done to date and the programming experience. The motivation for the teams is very high because ESA explains that it will bear the transportation and maintenance costs.

We will continue to inform others industries and companies that are being hacked and that they have no choice but to adapt to respond to the new challenges of the future and in which technology is of great importance.
