Good news: the first master's degree on breastfeeding will be taught

We echo Good news that will undoubtedly have an impact on the benefit of many babies and their mothers: today we have learned that Rey Juan Carlos University will teach the first master's degree on breastfeeding.

Mothers and those who are in contact every day with the reality of breastfeeding, we know that it is a subject unknown to many healthcare professionals. Without offense, there are super prepared, but others that leave much to be desired. Without going any further, we recently show an example of how the leaves of some pediatricians and nurses can end breastfeeding.

That's why we think it's great to create a University degree aimed at health professionals that improves training, promotion and research in breastfeeding. Investing in this way will mean future savings in the health of new generations.

So far we knew specialized courses, but not a degree of our own. The master's program will consist of 600 hours and will address both clinical management and consulting, such as research in Microbiology, Biochemistry and components of human milk, medical practices that protect breastfeeding, as well as the relationship between breastfeeding and public health , in other aspects. In addition there will be clinical practices in hospitals, laboratories or health centers, and students must carry out research work on the subject throughout the course.

The goal is also for students to obtain the IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) accreditation, which accredits them as certified breastfeeding consultants.

They will go through the authentic reference classrooms in breastfeeding. Names that will ring from our pages like José M. Paricio, Ibone Olza, Carmela Baeza or Juan Miguel Rodríguez, among others.

We hope it will be a success and that other universities will see the potential of offering a master's degree of this kind for the good of society.
