Neither boys nor girls, they are just toys: a fantastic advertisement

Many toy ads broadcast sexist models. We see girls playing "girl stuff" like babysitting, cooking or playing house, while boys prefer balls, trucks and cranes. In fact, they are deeply rooted concepts that we usually hear in other areas as well.

But from time to time someone lights up and hits the key with a strong message, as has happened with the Christmas campaign of the French supermarket chain Systeme U, which demolishes all these sexist stereotypes. He comes to tell us that the toys are neither boys nor girls: they are just toys, tools for the game.

We are the adults who feed these sexist stereotypes into them, through advertisements, our discourse and of course, by the example we set at home. At the beginning, the video shows us to what extent children are conditioned by social conventions. Hence the importance of us, the responsibility that parents and all adults have, to educate our children free from prejudice.

Because, what really happens when we leave children with toys? Well, they play with everyone, they experiment, because toys are that, nothing more (nothing less) than tools for the game.

The game is the most important activity in childhood. Through toys, children not only play but also learn and rehearse real-life situations, through symbolic play. That a child likes to vacuum and change a baby's diaper, perfect. That a girl likes to drive a crane or handle tools, great too. Let's free children from sexist stereotypes!
