World Oceans Day: the blue planet that our children lent us, has a sick heart

Yes, we recall one day of those that serve at least to remove consciousness.

We recently talked about World Environment Day and what we were and we are forced to change to protect it. Today we talk that healthy oceans are essential to have a healthy planet, but I don't know if we really are aware of it.

Why the oceans are the heart of our planet, of this blue planet that our children have lent us and it seems that we have endeavored to make this heart very difficult to keep beating.

We behave like capricious and impolite children with them and yet they are vital for life, for our life and not only because they regulate the climate or are habitat for thousands of living beings but for something basic: the oceans produce oxygen and that makes them essential.

As it is essential that we take care of them much more than what we have been doing. Thus United Nations marked June 8 on the world calendar as Oceans Day, to draw attention to the tremendous problem we have in these immense bodies of water because of the pollution to which we are subjecting them.

Healthy oceans, a healthy planet

It is the motto of this year from the United Nations: “Healthy oceans, a healthy planet” a healthy ocean in which, for example, fish do not get used to eating plastic as it is happening now.

A healthy ocean in which to swim with our children on vacation, those that are just around the corner and enjoy the sea on the shore of the beach.

A healthy ocean, alive, without illegal fishing, with sustainable aquaculture practices, free of pollution.

A healthy ocean like the one a young man of only 19 years ago dreamed up, quite different from what it is now for example the Pacific Ocean where currents have formed an island twice the size of the United States, difficult to imagine such an extension of plastics floating in the water, which leads to deforestation, pollution, poisoning of species, ...

According to United Nations calculations, Each square mile of ocean contains approximately 46,000 pieces of floating plastics. Some figures that should make us react as soon as possible.

A hope of 19 years

Boyan Slat He was only 19 years old when he decided that the garbage we had forced to swallow the seas and oceans of the planet was enough and he put his idea into action.

A young man of less than twenty years does not usually spend his time developing an idea like this or creating a company to start it, Boyan has done it and is on track that it can soon be launched. The sooner the better without a doubt.

But surely there are many boys of that age and even smaller thinking about how can they help clean the oceans and take care of the planet and without a doubt, summer vacations are a perfect time to start you in the knowledge of the seas, the oceans and what they mean for balance, for life in a word.

Walking on the beach, talking about the tides, not leaving forgotten or hidden waste in the sand or even, one day for example, devote ourselves to collecting what we find on the shore but that should not be there. To educate in respect and care for the environment is to educate for the future, for the future of our children, for their life as adults.

We love and take care of what we know, what we respect, what we feel as our and holidays are a perfect time to take a lesson like this, we can point in our calendar that the World Oceans Day That is today, it is only the beginning in our new path during these holidays.
