A baby dies after his father created a steam environment to calm his cough

Have a child with cough it's hard. And more if it is a constant cough. First because you see that he has a bad time and he doesn't rest, and second because as he does not rest, neither do the parents, and in the morning you have to fulfill your day to day, whatever you have spent the night.

That is why there are many who try new or old remedies, provided we are clear that they don't harm children, so that at least during the night they don't cough so much, and one of them is to increase the humidity of the environment a little.

It's what a father tried with his little boy, without being aware that he put his son at risk to the point of finding it almost lifeless.

First tried with lemon and sugar

The baby was only one year old, and apparently he was coughing a lot. As we read in Antena 3, he first tried to calm his cough with a little water, lemon and sugar.

Not getting the expected result, already at three in the morning, he thought that the humidity would do well to calm the cough, so he went to the bathroom and filled the bathtub with very hot water.

He placed the baby next to the bathtub so he could breathe the mist that was generated, and left him sleeping in the bathroom. Meanwhile, he went to bed and set the alarm two hours later, to go find the little one.

The alarm was not necessary

However, the baby's mother went to see how she was before those two hours, and thus discovered that what was supposed to be just a humid environment it had become a sauna. The bathroom was at more than 42 degrees of temperature and the baby was in a very bad state.

Although he was quickly transferred to the nearest hospital, the little one he died an hour later.

How good is moisture for cough?

If the environment of the house is relatively dry, adding a little moisture can help the mucus of a cold to soften and the cough is more effective and, therefore, a baby ends up coughing a little less. But it always has to be done with systems that do not endanger the baby or child, and that of generating moisture with very hot water can greatly increase the temperature of the place where the method is carried out, as you see.

Now, when there is bronchitis, as the AEP says, moisture could be harmful and make the picture worse.

So if you are wondering what you can do to treat the cough of a child under two years old (because until that age they should not take cough suppressants), you may want to try some of the natural cough remedies.

And this little one, we can only wish him to rest in peace. And to their parents send them a hug and our condolences.
