They were left hanging: 600 children run out of summer camp in Spain

Summer camps are one of the reconciliation solutions parents use during school vacations. Parents work, but children do not go to school and look for options to have fun, meet other children and learn things they do not learn during the course.

But in Spain, 600 children have run out of summer camp due to poor education management as a consequence of the motion of censure that led to the change of government. The current government alleges that it is bad management inherited from the previous administration blaming each other, but the truth is that nobody remembered the children they left hanging.

Bad management = 600 hanging children

It's about a language immersion program from the Ministry of Education for first and second year ESO students. The colonies are held in different parts of Spain for students studying "in centers supported by public funds and have obtained at least a 7 grade point average and at least this same grade in the final grade of the English course."

The problem is that it they summoned 2,200 places for children which were provisionally admitted in May, but the offers of the companies submitted for tender were insufficient and they only added 1,600 places. The 11 colonies that they hoped to start up, have remained in eight, and in the middle, 600 hung children.

When the 600 children who were left without a camp place were going to be given a solution, the motion of censure and the change of government came, so that the management was paralyzed until now that comes to light.

The problem is not only for children who run out of camp, but for parents who are already late to get a place elsewhere, they have no solution to leave their children while they work.

350 relocated children

The Government, as confirmed in a press release, has relocated 350 children of the 600 that have been left out of the camps that began on July 1, as some admitted did not attend and sites have been searched in other provinces.

But some parents are also not satisfied with this solution, since they are offered campsites in other parts of Spain, far from their place of residence. A family from Santander is offered a place in Cádiz, for example, and children are offered Seville in Salamanca.

A family from Seville has one of their children in Salamanca and their twin sister has been left off the list. “They told us to demand a solution so that we could at least enter the next turn of the second half of July, but the protest was no use. It is a shame to play like that with people, but especially with the illusion of children, ”said the affected family to NoticiasCYL.

A shame. Hopefully it will be solved as soon as possible and more convenient for affected families, although there is no solution for many children who have run out of summer camp, especially those who were targeted for the first half of July.
