Midwives also ask for natural childbirth

Lately there is a lot of sea in the background with the theme of natural childbirth ... and I'm glad.

As I have been saying for some time now, fortunately something is changing and we are gradually observing how the defense of a more naturalized humanized birth is becoming a reality.

Midwives have a lot to do with this process. It is they who accompany the mothers during pregnancy and childbirth and receive their concerns firsthand.

The Federation of Midwifery Associations of Spain, meeting at a professional meeting, said yesterday the need for all maternal and child hospitals to offer women who want to the possibility of choosing a normal birth, as happens in Britain.

They request that the medical protocol be modified so that women who have had a risk-free, low-risk, and even medium-sized pregnancy can be treated in a different way.

They propose that the midwife elaborate with the woman a birth plan, with the companion she wants, to choose if she wants to be in the single room at the time of delivery, not to have an episiotomy if it is not necessary, or put sera, or anesthesia if you do not need it, that you can move and give birth sitting, standing, or as you prefer.

For now, there are a few hospitals that practice this new modality of humanized scientific birth, but hopefully thanks to the work of midwives, it will be extended to all centers in the country.

They also announced that a document will be written in collaboration with the Ministry of Health to promote natural childbirth that will be released after the summer.

We are in change.
