The symbolic game

When it comes to children, play is a serious thing. The game not only entertains them but also contributes to their intellectual and emotional development.

The symbolic game is the children's game par excellence in which the little ones imagine being, imitating situations that they see in real life.

In that process they use their imagination to the fullest, constantly playing on the border between the real and the imaginary, which helps them create mental representations that will be of great help in solving future situations in their lives.

The recreational activities in which children learn to symbolize begin at the age of two when they have the level of understanding that allows them to imitate real situations such as playing dad and mom, making food, playing going to the store for food, take care of the baby, to name some of my three-year-old's favorite games.

But the game does not consist solely in imagining, but the speech accompanies the game, since while they interpret they are talking and sharing their fantasies with other children, so it also fosters their socialization.

Through representation, children assimilate and understand the situations they live in real life by establishing relationships that will help them to develop successfully in the future.

As parents, we have to encourage by all possible means this type of game in our children, playing with them and buying them or making toys that enhance the symbolic game, so important for their personal maturation.
