Tell us your story: Luz Elena's baby

Following our stories of parents, today we have the story of Luz Elena, which tells how her baby came into the world despite a disease that the mother suffered during pregnancy and that put the child's life at risk. Even with all the imaginable setbacks, at the time of bringing her baby into the world, Luz Elena drew strength and that much-desired child was born. Today you can say that your baby has made the bond between the parents stronger and has discovered a purer and greater love.

We remember both parents and moms who want to tell us their experiences that can send us their story to [email protected]. Unfortunately we cannot publish them all, but we select some to share with other readers. This is the story we bring today:

Hello!

My name is Luz Elena, I am 30 years old and after a long time trying to get pregnant I managed to do it and it is my desire to tell you how I lived my pregnancy and how happy I have been since my baby came into my life.

On my last review appointment and even with 4 weeks left until the due date, I commented my concerns to my doctor. He had a lot of itching on the palms and hands and feet. It was so desperate that I couldn't sleep. When I said that to my doctor, he sent me to do some tests and from that I was diagnosed with a disease that gives pregnant women, which I had never heard and is called "intrahepatic cholestasis."

It is an infection in the liver, which becomes inflamed and releases enzymes that if they cross the placenta is like poison to the baby. I was hospitalized for a week with the risk that I had already been told that my baby could die inside me. A long awaited baby. My husband and I did not talk about it in the hospital, because I was collapsing at the thought of losing a being who had never seen his face and loved him more than anyone else. I had to have an amniocentesis, but with the position my baby had, I couldn't, and I was at greater risk. The good news of that day was that the lungs were already mature and could start to induce labor. I was so exhausted because the itching did not stop and I did not sleep for many days that everyone thought that I would not be able to expel it, but it was not so. My baby is ready to go out into the world. I asked my close ones and even those who do not live near me to make a prayer chain so that everything went well. And so it was ... My baby was born on January 15. His dad and I joined much more. We love him so much and so far we still don't touch the subject. I don't like the idea that I could have lost it. And that's how I see the manifestation of a Higher Power that loves me unconditionally. He is my first child and with this being a mommy, I discover the purest and greatest love I could have ever imagined he would feel. Thank you for offering us this page.
