"Flower in the pocket": a film about children without a mother

Flower in the pocket”Is the film by the young Malay director Liew Seng Tat (1979) that has been awarded at the Pusán and Rotterdam film festivals and is presented this month at the“ Cines del Sur ”pageant in Granada.

And what is this movie about? In Japan there is a curious custom: Mother's Day is commemorated with flowers. According to tradition, they are offered two color flowers, the white symbolizing death and red life.

With this starting point the director wanted to make a movie about two children on the trail of that maternal figure, but over time he changed his mind, and finally it is about children who did not even have knowledge of the existence of it. That is why the mother became the background of the story: the story of two children mother orphans and his complicated life with a workaholic father and negligent with them.

A hard issue where there are and will have to see the movie to discover how he has treated and what conclusions he has drawn from unstructured families. A priori, the movie seems optimistic.

Regarding the roll with children, the filmmaker has said in an interview that although for others it is problematic because they have to impose a work discipline, for him it has been positive because he learned to be more flexible and this completely changed his concept about shooting a film. Well, for these sensible statements and for the bold choice of the subject, I bet on this guy and wish him good luck in his work.
