The importance of obstetric physiotherapy

I received an interesting interview with José Miguel de Amóstegui published by Consumer-Eroski specialist in obstetric physiotherapy and president of the Spanish Society of Physiotherapy and Pelviperineology. In it, if you read it completely, you can find fundamental keys to understand the importance of this discipline in maternal well-being and health.

During pregnancy the woman's body changes profoundly and during delivery and postpartum conditions also continue that can lead to problems such as backaches and pelvic floor disorders.

In the interview it is advised that all pregnant women can be observed by a physiotherapist specialized, in order to prevent bad postures that would end up causing pain. Prevention is very important, both to avoid alterations of the joints, the sacral-iliac area and especially the pelvic floor. Above all, anyway, all women who suffer pain or discomfort should go to a physiotherapist, because with the right treatment almost all of these disorders can be cured or greatly improved. It is also important, they point out, the attention of these specialists in childbirth, where they can help and advise women to perform postures that allow everything to happen more naturally, with vertical or four-legged delivery being especially recommended, instead of in lithotomy
