Diego-San, another disturbing baby robot

Let's see if engineers find out that babies and children don't behave like robots and dedicate their efforts to other research. We recently met Yotaro, a baby for first-time parenting practices, and today we bring Diego-San, a robot with a metallic body and a large head that mimics that of a baby.

This robot baby is 130 centimeters tall and weighs no less than 30 kilos, although despite its size it aims to "simulate" the behavior of a 1-year-old child.

Diego-San has been developed by researchers from the Machine Perception Laboratory of the University of California and the Japanese company Kokoro Co in order to analyze the motor and emotional development of a baby. How are they going to do this, if the robots can't get excited? Let's leave it in which they are going to analyze their movements.

To do this, Diego-San's body has 60 moving parts and has prone hands with which it can take objects. But ... I see that motor coordination is limitedWell, he only knows how to get up from a chair and grab a bottle of water. Even those who have only seen a one-year-old child from afar know that they can perform many more movements.

Then, we will say that the greatest virtue of this strange robot is its facial gestures, because the face has 20 moving parts that infer "emotion" in the absence of words. Although surely these gestures are not too natural and resemble little what the one-year-old children express.

The fact that the robot is equipped with a high resolution camera and accelerometers, I imagine that the budget to create this machine will have been raised considerably.

Finally, despite everything, it is not too clear to me why they have created Diego-San, a disturbing baby-robot who would not give a hug for fear of electrocuting me ...
