A caesarean section costs almost twice as much as a normal birth

That we are in times of crisis is not news. The state of the economy is such that the planning of health centers is beginning to be modified in order to save expenses, since health is one of the points that we want to modify to improve the efficiency of resources.

With the intention of raising public awareness of the expense that occurs when visiting a public center (there are people who believe that everything is free), the government will establish the so-called "shadow bill", which is an invoice (informative ) that those who have gone to a hospital will receive so that they know first hand what the cost of the tests and interventions performed has been.

Thanks to this we have learned that a normal delivery without complications costs 1,600 euros and that A cesarean, also without complications, costs almost double, in this case 3,000 euros.

Knowing this fact, I have remembered a debate that I could see on television some time ago in which some health centers, especially private ones, were accused of making too many caesarean sections, precisely, to raise more money with it.

The response of a gynecologist was that a delivery and a C-section cost exactly the same. As it was not possible to refute this information because the data was unknown (at least the viewers did not know it), many of us ended up believing that there was no economic interest behind the caesarean sections (although it was hard to believe).

However now we realize that doing a caesarean section reports many more benefits to health centers that bill social security (the private ones may bill differently), to give birth vaginally.

Is this one of the reasons why they have been doing, for so many years, a number of caesarean sections much higher than recommended by WHO?
