Last month there was an Emergency Pediatric Congress in Gijón and some of the conclusions have seemed very interesting to me, parents, to evaluate better the biggest risks for children and be able to prevent them.
This congress, with 600 registered, 300 posters and 29 communications is a space for reflection on this specialty, so important for families, that it must attend to very varied cases, from dehydration, medication poisoning, a fall or a high fever That does not respond to antithermic agents.
I must highlight the danger of falls. For example, a study of 127 children under one year old was presented with head injury. The great majority had fallen from the bed, the cart or the changing table, the majority being blows that could have been avoided with very simple security measures.
Other serious accidents occur because parents talk on the phone in the carDo not use child restraint systems or leave children in the walker in an unsafe environment despite the obvious dangers of these practices.
