The boogers are our friends (although sometimes they tire)

Surely one and one have one of those friends who likes you, who is a good person and who values your friendship but whose presence sometimes becomes a bit tired, either because of his way of being, because he gets too close to you when he speaks or whatever.

Well, as this kind of friends we could say that they are the boogers, that although all insist on eliminating them anyway they have a very useful protection function That we should not ignore.

It is more or less like what happens with fever, which for some time has become a disease when it is only a symptom. Having a fever, as I say, is not a disease, it is the sign that the body is fighting against something and, to end it, the body increases the temperature (at higher temperatures, worse virus survival).

The boogers are our friends ...

Well, something similar happens with snot. The inside of our nose is made of mucous tissue, that is, it is moist due to the presence of mucus (if we did not have it, it would dry until it cracked like the earth that has been claiming for a rain that has not arrived for years). But this is not the most important mucus function. The best thing that boogers can do for our children is to protect them.

I know it may sound weird, because nobody wants to have boogers and nobody wants their kids to have boogers, but the booger has high antibody concentrations, that is to say, of defenses, and a viscosity such that it is the perfect one in charge of defending the nose, that is the entrance of air to the lungs, so that, if it can be, the infection does not happen of there.

... although sometimes they tire

- Hey, I haven't heard from Juan for a long time, how are you doing? - Well, well, now I haven't seen him in a while. You already know how he is, a while with him can be wonderful, but a long time with him can be desperate. - Of course, what a strange friendship. - True, it's something like "neither with you nor without you".

Mucus protects us and helps us prevent the infection from going further, as they are a great barrier to entry for viruses and bacteria. The problem is that they tire, many children get tired because they don't let them breathe. Babies who cannot breastfeed because they have mucus, young children who vomit because the mucus reaches their throat, children who sleep poorly because the mucus prevents them from breathing normally ...

For all these reasons, serum, nasal sprays, mucolytics are sold (which no longer enter into social security because their effectiveness is in question), knobs, mucus aspirators, etc., but we must not become obsessed. If our son plays and runs happily with his hanging moquito let's leave him with him (As much we remove it from the mouth, which bothers). If instead the child is uncomfortable and restless, or has trouble breathing, it may be better to relieve congestion a bit, because it is also not a plan that he cannot sleep or eat.

That is, in summary, that boogers are not bad, that we do not have to leave the child clean of snot on the outside and inside because they have a negligible function. Now, if we see that they are very annoying, then let's do something for the good of the child, so that he breathes a better tad, so that he can eat without vomiting and ultimately move on until the infection he has is cured.
