Enjoy the water and avoid risks. Guide for families

A few days ago Lola told us about the recommendations for the safe bathroom of the Ministry of Health, which published a few years ago Guide for families: Enjoy water and avoid risks.

It is a guide aimed at families, children and adolescents, with illustrations as a comic, which summarizes the fundamental points for safety in the aquatic environment, points that we conveniently remember for this summer.

  • Prevention is important: warns of the risk, assesses possible pelibros and adopts a safe attitude.

  • Choose safe places to bathe and do it accompanied by dad or mom.

  • Wear a life jacket if you can't swim.

  • Before getting into the water you must know the depth and temperature of it.

  • Wait two hours after the meal before bathing.

  • If you feel bad while you bathe, let someone know and get out of the water.

  • Protect yourself from the sun.

  • Respect the rules of the pool, do not run along the edge.

  • On beaches bathe in areas guarded by lifeguards, respecting the indications of the flags.

  • Avoid bathing in rivers, lakes or swamps that we don't know.

The guide continues with messages for mothers and fathers, data on first aid and how to act in an accident ... It is an interesting read for everyone, and the drawings make the children pay attention to the message.

This is a document prepared by the Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality with the collaboration of the Spanish Red Cross (you can download it from here) whose objective is:

warn children and adults responsible for their care of the dangers that can be found during leisure activities in the water and recommend the safety behaviors that should be adopted to avoid them, while enjoying the pleasant feeling and fun to take a good bath or practice a water sport.

It is important that children and adults know the risks that exist during bathing in the sea, swimming pool, lakes ... since the World Health Organization estimates that every year more than 5,000 people die from drowning in the European Region. 0 and 19 years.

In addition to drowning we have another serious problem, the "almost drowning", since some of the people who survive a drowning are left with permanent brain damage.

For all this, to enjoy a safe bath, we recommend reading and share with your children this Guide for families: "Enjoy water and avoid risks". It never hurts to remember the basic safety rules in these cases.
