Apple adapts the conditions of the app store for those under 13

Apple have decided bet on education on mobile devices and especially apply it in the ages under 13 years. That is why their conditions have changed and children under 13 can now open an account without being restricted to parental control. These are the rules derived from the COPPA, Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.

The new section for children under 13 years of age specifies that the applications will not allow advertising within the applications and that they must accept parental consent to access other applications. They are also created categories for children of children under 5 years, with ages between 6 and 8 years and for those between 9 and 11 years old.

It is also specified that applications may request the date of birth, especially to meet the conditions applicable to age. In addition, in the event that the application collects and transmits personal information of minors such as: name, address, email, images, videos or any other identifier, it will have to comply with the specific regulations for children.

Our Applesfera partners tell us that with the arrival of iOS 7, Apple's operating system, a special section for children will be created and that it will be completed with the specific education program for them. The challenge is to facilitate the use of Apple devices in the classroom.

These are new requirements that will affect new applications, also existing ones and are sure to be a nuisance for them because it requires changes and modifications. In any case, the goal is to turn the iPad into a device suitable for education and all the possibilities it offers.
