Funny puff pastry and chocolate masks. Carnival Recipe for Children

We are already at Carnival and to celebrate it we have thought about this recipe that combines a craft task that we can do with children and a dish that they can use as a costume and that they can also eat whenever they want. It's about funny puff pastry and chocolate masks, I'm sure you like them as much as my nieces.

The Children can help us draw templates for puff pastry, cutting them in cardboard and that will help us to cut the puff pastry. You can also participate in the decoration that we will make with molten chocolate and sugar glitter. It is going to be very fun.

Ingredients for 4 different masks

  • A plate of refrigerated puff pastry, 75 gr of cover chocolate, 1 beaten egg, 4 wooden skewers and edible sugar ornaments

How to make puff pastry masks

We begin by designing the masks, which is a task in which children can participate with their creativity, drawing their ideas on paper. Then we pass the masks to cardboard and using it as a template, we cut the puff pastry with the same design.

Chop the puff pastry with a fork to prevent it from rising too much when baking and varnish it with beaten egg. After we bake the masks at 200ºC for about 10 minutes until they are with a beautiful golden color.

For the decoration we melt some chocolate of special coverage pastry in a bowl subjecting it to two one minute sessions in the microwave at maximum power and beating between sessions with the rods.

Place the masks on a paper to avoid staining and with a spoon in motion, we draw lines with the chocolate. We also put on the ends of the masks some thicker sticks to use as glue so that decorative sugar glitters stick together.

We finish the job putting a skewer on one ends so that it can be used as an element of a costume in the purest style of the Venice's Carnival. Then we can play with the children not to recognize them when they wear the mask.
