Do you really still think that a chubby child is healthier?

That in Spain we have a problem of childhood obesity, I think we all know it. They are not all children, they are not a majority, but there are many who are overweight and yes there are many who are obese, and each time more. In the consultation I find many times with children over kilos and, although it is true that genetics has to do with it, it is also true that habits can make a difference.

"There is nothing to do, everyone in the family is like that," they tell me often. Then you ask them what they eat at home and they don't smell the vegetables, they don't eat just fruit, they drink more juices and soft drinks than water, they get some dinners that neither me (eight loins a girl with obesity dined the other day), snack pastries and the tracksuit and slippers use them because they are more comfortable, but not for exercise.

The toilets we hit a wall when we try to explain to mothers and grandmothers that the whole family is doing it wrong. We collide because it seems that they do not care too much that the child is overweight. No, it is not a question of image, it is for health. And many times they tell me that "he is so skinny, he seems sick." But it is that seeing this image that I bring you today: Is there still someone who can think that the extra kilos equals better health?

But in the picture adult women appear

I know, the same image does not exist showing us bodies of children, so we have to pull adults to see the differences between the inside of the body of an obese woman and the inside of the body of a woman with a normal weight.

At first glance, the amount of fat the obese woman has stands out. Look at the whole yellow area surrounding the muscles. All fat. The funny thing is that we also find it surrounding the heart and liver. Look also at the shape of the body and bones (it is clear that the "I am broad-bone" does not explain obesity).

Look at the muscle mass now. The two have practically the same amount of muscle with the difference that one of them has to move a body that almost weighs twice as much. That makes the physical condition much worse, greater fatigue and greater work carried out by the joints, which are not "saved" by the muscular system.

Fat in the liver and heart

Many obese people develop fat deposits inside the liver. As we see here, this is a condition that can lead 10% of these people to end up suffering liver cirrhosis. Fat in the heart indicates that there will be deposits of fat decreasing the caliber of blood vessels, or what is the same, an increased risk of heart attack.

"No, if he is in the park all day"

I explain how to improve eating habits, I tell them that everything starts at the supermarket, I clarify that the whole family has to change (at this point many parents pout, because they, apparently, intended to continue eating everything, leaving the child on a diet) and I tell them that they have to start making a more active life.

"No, if he is in the park all day and doesn't stop," they tell me. Then, of course, I answer that "well, you see that it is not enough." Because if what goes to the park is to swing, no matter how fast he takes on the swing, the child will not lose weight. And no matter how little holes I make in the sand, either.

Sedentary lifestyle is another risk factor for multiple diseases and causes so many people to have little energy and an improved state of health. It is because when we see someone exercising we consider him as someone who, as a plus, to be better, exercises, when it turns out that those of us who exercise are normal, those of us who do what our body is prepared and designed for. It is those who do not move that do something out of the ordinary and it is they who are doing something negative, for doing nothing.

It is not that exercise is good, it is normal. It is sedentary, which is bad. So no, the chubby boy is not healthier, the grandmother who buys grandchildren every day to snack is an irresponsible and the family that does not remedy and who also gives a bad example to the child is playing with everyone's health.

But this is not the worst, the worst is indifference. See that a child has extra pounds at 5 years and 7 again weigh him and see that, in proportion, they still have more left over, and that every month that passes, the thing gets more serious and they continue to believe that " Whatever they say, this comes from family. " That's the worst.
