Ibuprofen is the best childhood analgesic

Previous studies had already shown that ibuprofen was a better drug than paracetamol for lowering children's fever, in terms of sore throats or teeth, showed similar results.

A new study reveals that also Ibuprofen is the best pain reliever to alleviate acute musculoskeletal pain, be they sprains, fractures, etc.

The researchers from the University of Ottawa (Canada) who carried out the study, had the data of 300 children who came with one of these injuries to the emergency department and who were aged between 6 and 17 years.

100 children received ibuprofen, the same number of paracetamol children and the other 100 codeine, the study groups were similar in age, gender, final diagnosis, previous analgesia administered. After an hour of drug administration, they were asked how they carried the pain, half an hour later again and so on. In the first hour, children who had received ibuprofen had relieved their pain by 24 points on a scale of 0 to 100, those who received paracetamol saw their pain reduced by 12 points and those who took codeine 11.

In summary, ibuprofen is stronger against fractures than against soft tissue injuries, sprains, sprains, etc. 52% of children saw their pain reduced with ibuprofen compared to 40% and 36% of the other two medications, which the researchers consider very little, true, because they only felt a considerable relief few more than half.
