Exchange two children for a cockatoo and 175 dollars

Every week (or so it seems to me), a piece of news or two of those that make you "I don't know whether to laugh or cry" appears. Today I bring you this one that has no waste.

Donna Greenwell, a 53-year-old woman, was in the care of her neighbor's children, a five-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl, when she negotiated by telephone the exchange of children for a cockatoo and 175 dollars (139 euros to change).

Apparently Pablo Romero, 46, and his wife Brandy Lynn, 27, told him that they had been looking for a baby for some time, but that they couldn't. Greenwell then decided to sell the boy and the girl in exchange for $ 2,000. The couple replied that he did not have that money and the caretaker of the children changed the offer by requesting the cockatoo that they had put up for sale through a sign stuck in their barn and that they had valued at $ 1,500 and $ 175 more.

The next day, ready to make the change effective, Donna took the children to the couple's house and they claimed the adoption papers, documents she could not provide.

Police officers arrested the three people thanks to an anonymous call that reported the crime. Greenwell explained to the district attorney that the children's parents left them in their care because they traveled out of state and she couldn't take care of herself anymore because of her job As a truck driver.

In the end one does not know who is the real protagonist of the news, if the woman had the occurrence of giving two children she was in charge of in exchange for money at first and an animal and money later (what was she going to tell the parents of the children when they return? Because with a cockatoo and 175 dollars you do not get anywhere ...) or the couple that accepts two children who are already 4 and 5 years old and that above request the adoption papers.
